Netherlands U 18’s v Welsh Academicals

Lovely sunny day, Accies playing right to left away from the main school.

Accies kick off.

Following some early forward drives from the Netherlands pack, Accies turn the ball over at a ruck, spread the ball wide down the right only for the ball to intercepted by the Netherlands winger who makes 15 metres before play breaks down. Early Accies pressure but strong defensive tackling from the hosts.

After 10 mins, from a Netherlands penalty on halfway, the ball was kicked into touch inside the Accies 22. From the resulting lineout, a short ball from outside half to his centre allowed him to cut through Accies midfield and score next to the posts, Netherlands 5 v  0 Accies .

Just 4 minutes later persistent pressure from the Netherlands backs and forwards moving the ball from touchline to touchline allowed Netherlands hooker to crash over under the posts, followed by a successful conversion.  12 v 0.

Another handling error from Accies in midfield allows Netherlands openside flanker to hack the ball over line and fall on it to score, conversion successful. 19 v 0

Sam Bartlett replaced Tyler Dean at loosehead for a suspected concussion 5 minutes before the break. No8 Charlie Evans broke a few tackles to gallop into the home 22 but dogged Netherlands defence kept the Accies out.

Netherlands kick off as second half resumes, the Accies will be hoping for better accuracy in their passing to eradicate the handling errors of the 1^st half, which accounted for many of the points conceded.

Early pressure from Accies but good defence from Netherlands as they break out from their goal line and No8 runs 50 metres but is tackled in the Accies 22, the Netherlands winger drives in from the side which allows Accies to clear their lines from the resulting penalty. Accies are now applying continuous pressure on the hosts resulting in a goal line dropout.

Accies replacement Ifan Davies on for Noah Potter.

Following a poor clearance kick by Netherlands, Accies work the ball to midfield and replacement Bailey Wright burrows over next to the posts. Dylan Menzies converts. 19 v 7.

From the restart, Accies move the ball left and winger Lewis Howells races into the opposition half. On 64 minutes, Howells was again in on the action and forced his way over in the corner, Menzies again converted. 19 v 14.

On 70 minutes another Accies dropped pass on their 22 metre line allowed Netherlands No 8 to kick through and score unopposed next to the posts. 26 v 14.

With time running out, some slick passing from the Accies back line moving the ball back and for across the field, eventually worked centre Aneurin Paterson into space for him to dive over and score out wide.
